Rosie's Dog House
The Place Where Dogs Have Their Day

Welcome...The Grooming Spot

Welcome To The House

Jean Kelly Dog Grooming  Welcomes You To Rosie's Dog House.

Jean Kelly Dog Grooming is a new and different type of grooming shop.  Offering a breath of fresh air to nervous or older dogs ("special needs" dogs).  It it quiet and calm.

To introduce myself, I am Rosie’s friend Jean Kelly.  I have been grooming dogs for about 5 years. I have a long career in animal care.  I grew up on a small farm where we raised cows and pigs and boarded horses.  Later on I studied animal science and worked for six years as a zoo keeper.  I attended Pikes Peak Community College (Zoo Keeping Technology) and Texas All Breed Grooming School.

My specialty is Bichon, Maltese, Great Pyrenees (it just happened that they are all fluffy white dogs) and Special Needs Dogs (very nervous, older or special health concerns).  My philosophy is that I don't want to be the groomer who can brag they are really, really fast.  I feel that I am grooming beautiful dogs who are not traumatized by the groom.  Dogs are not given a choice if want to be groomed or even if they feel up to it that day.  They should be comfortable and not stressed.   It does take longer, but dogs deserve it.  I also have been known to groom dogs either sitting on the floor or in my lap.   I always compare grooming a nervous dogs to this:  Imagine if you are in a place that you really do not know where you are or why you where there, you do not speak the language.  You are grabbed by a crazy hair dresser who did not ask your permission, and then you have to stand on a really, really high table to have your hair cut.  You are then told to stand on one foot while this stranger trims your toe nails (now does that sound like fun?).   Dogs deserve better threatment than they get at many grooming shops.

A Story About Rosie

So who is Rosie? She is a 5 year old Gordon Setter mix who always makes everyone around her smile.

Rosie is an amazing dog.  I know they all are, but Rosie has a unique talent.  A talent that saved my life.  Three years ago, Rosie let me know that something was wrong with my body.  She kept sniffing a spot, I checked it out, went to the doctor, and it was stage 2 breast cancer.  I was fortunate it had just started to spread.  If Rosie had not let me know about it, things might have turned out completely different.

She gets lots of really big hugs every day, and I feel very lucky to be blessed with such a great dog.

Jean Kelly Dog Grooming Foods That Your Dog Should Not Eat

The grooming shop is not your typical grooming shop.  Yes it is a vintage travel trailer, but it is also quiet and calming.  No barking dogs, no little wire cages for the dogs to sit in all day, just a relaxed place for your dog to be groomed at.

Keep Pup Safe!

Tip # 1

If your dog spends time in a crate, make sure that all nuts are properly tightened and there are no openings that can catch body parts.  Make sure that your dog's collar can not catch.

Tip #2

Dogs can get very excited about car rides, always secure your dog in the car to prevent them from jumping out when you exit the car.  A car harness or crate is best, however a spring clip can be put on the end of the leash. You can clip the leash to the post on a headrest.
